LNN President Dr. Antoun Georges Daou visits the Antonine International School in Ajaltoun Wednesday 20 January 2009

The Lebanese National Network founder and president, Dr. Antoun Georges Daou, continued his yearly rounds on Lebanese schools and academic institutions, and visited the Antonine International School in Ajaltoun. During his visit, Dr. Daou met with the school administration and appreciated the effort that is being placed into the academic as well as the human sides of education in this institution.
After meeting the academic staff and school teachers, Dr. Daou visited the classrooms in the middle section and shared with the students the newest information on space exploration and space related engineering innovations. He answered the students’ questions about the solar system, the physics of light as well as geological and life sciences. Dr. Daou also distributed to the students some posters, lenticulars, and 3D images with special eyewear from NASA, Rice University, and Lockheed Martin.

Following this, Dr. Daou launched a small competition for middle school students, where they were asked to construct light spectroscopes using basic material offered by the Stanford University solar center, and offered two telescopes to the winners. He also gave the school a radio telescope construction kit and trained the science teachers on how to construct and use it throughout the academic year.
During his visit, the AIS students also participated in the 2009 Lebanese National Network Scientific Competition. AIS is part of more than 80 academic institutions nationwide that participate in the activities organized by SciLeb, the academic branch of the Lebanese National Network. The finalists in this competition will be interviewed and will possibly be admitted to the Leadership program organized by the network throughout their basic and advanced education years.

After his class rounds, Dr. Daou also gave a large audience conference to the high school section titled “Learning Adventure in the Space Age”. During his talk, Dr. Daou exposed slides on the latest advances in space science, with a particular emphasis on the sun and the new satellite missions used to image and better understand our star and the solar system. He also talked about new innovations in robotics and mechanical engineering, showing examples on new robots designed to do the job of humans in dangerous scenarios in space. Dr. Daou intentionally insisted that the Lebanese students should place more emphasis on their education, ethics, and culture, and strive towards living a quality life away from the different mistakes and errors that our beloved country in sinking in. He particularly underlined the different problems that are slowly yet strongly changing and disintegrating a great part of the Lebanese society, and explained to the students that there are always ways to confront and defeat the decadence and evil currents that could stand in their way. He also gave the students a good patriotic boost and advised them never to forget who they are and where they come from, because he, who forgets his past, loses his future. |

Through such visits and activities, the Lebanese National Network is placing high hopes that exposing the Lebanese society, especially our youth, to successful intellectuals such as Dr. Daou, would give them more motivation and courage to ameliorate their lives and have more faith in a peaceful and prosperous Lebanon. |
